Unemployment Rate Continues To Climb

The statistics department of Malaysia has just released their latest data for 1st quarter 2009. Results as updated on June 30th 2009 tell us that the unemployment rate in Malaysia is at 4.0% now. Out of the total workforce of 11 million, we have 450,700 unemployed. Bad? Yes, when you compared it with end of last year that stands at only 3.3%.

But, unemployment in Malaysia is not as bad when we compared with Japan. As of this month, the unemployment rate in Japan has already hit 5.7%. And the number of unemployed? A whopping 3.59 million. How serious it is? It’s equivalent to 50% of the Klang Valley population (7 million people now) went jobless!
